What to expect - Term 4

This term, the last term , we are hosting assembly.  This will be in week 4.  In preparation for this we have some projects on the go in the classroom.  These includes our Pepeha, a skit using our Te Reo.  We have completed some perspective art that we will try and use, if they haven't been selected for the calendar art.  We have Te Rakau with Matua Kipa on Wednesday.  Te Rakau is a way of developing our skills in working and learning together, while focusing on the using Te Reo.

Maths:  We are starting this term with measurement.  This will include distance, volume, time and mass. So plenty to look forward to there.

Writing:  The year 4 team and the Year 3 team will get together a little later in the term to moderate the writing.  The focus will be on persuasive writing, which the students have already experienced.  We will focus a little more the specific language features used for such a piece of writing.  This will involve looking at the type of vocabulary that helps to organise information, and using paragraphs.

We will incorporate digital learning, using Google docs to practice with revising sentences and sharing and collaborating with ideas.  It is a continual process to develop the natural step to adjust sentences. The aim is to make the message in each sentence clearer and stronger, and focus on checking the surface features are correct, such as punctuation and spelling.

Reading:  We will continue with our reading everyday.  Hopefully we will get the use of the SRA reading box.  This allows students to choose some activities at their level for themselves.  Within the reading programme, we will also pilot the use of some online reading resources.  These include Folio and Sunshine Online.  Quite naturally,  the students are really motivated for the use of the laptops, and completing activities specific to their level.

Our Inquiry.  We are going to start to inquire into; "Why is wai a taonga?" Why is water precious, a treasure?

Garden to Table
Of course we will continue with our ongoing efforts in Garden to Table.  This has been fantastic through the year and the kids love getting out on Thursday morning. Volunteers are still welcome to come and join us.
