Are communities just about people?

We have made a start on our unit of inquiry. The kids have brainstormed what they know about the idea of Communities. One thinking activity we tried for the first time was the exercise of speaking to a partner for 30 seconds non-stop about the ideas on Communities. The partner had to just listen.  It sounds simple but it is a challenge, when the partner can't respond.  Next,  they swapped roles. We then came together and the ideas flowed.  I recorded down the kids thoughts on a big piece of poster paper. Through some questioning to stretch their thinking, the kids then began to make connections with arrows, between different ideas. This demonstrates thinking about their own ideas.

The kids have been enjoying the building blocks in the morning. Mostly towers but a few catapults as well.

Of course El Greigo was a pretty big hit with the kids.
