Balanced, blended learning approach:
We take a
blended and inquiry learning approach in our classroom. This approach provides
literacy, maths, science, social studies, physical education and the arts
instruction with a balance between formal teaching methods and child centered, learning activities.
- Whole group approaches to demonstrate and model
- Small group approaches to meet individual needs
- Collaborative experiences to learn together and from each other
- Independent experiences to develop individual fluency and competence in reading and writing
Home-learning is a continuation of
learning from the class. It should not be stressful! It will include a variety
of:
- Reading daily. This can include reading with and to your child.
- At various times through the year there may be small research questions the kids will bring home.
- Spelling
- Maths facts and number knowledge.
- Chances for playdates are also important or if there is building with Dad, or an Uncle, or there is some baking happening, these are a good time for kids to learn different skills and knowledge. If chores at home need to be completed, this can also be considered a choice for home-learning.
